Is it possible to make money from blogging ?

Posted by Muslim on Friday, September 2, 2011

There are many blogging tips that you should make it your business to make yourself aware of and one of the best blogging tips would be to use WordPress as your blogging platform of choice.

It is extremely easy to set up a self hosted WordPress blog and when I say easy, I mean that it will take you no longer that a couple of minutes. Blogging tips with regard to hosting are common but by far the most useful of these kind of blogging tips is to get a hosting account that has cpanel. For those of you who are not familiar with this it simple means that if your hosting account has cpanel it will also have something called fantastico which basically means that you will be able to set up your blog with a couple of mouse click.

Another one of my favorite blogging tips is to have a phrase that is being searched for with limited competition in the domain name of the blog. This is one of the most highly effective blogging tips and you can find these kind of phrases with the Google keyword tool which is free to use.

It is advisable that you simply set up a WordPress and learn how the whole thing works and the you will be able to make your own blogging tips and act upon them as the need arises. One thing to remember though, out of all of the blogging tips is that content really is king and it is that which will determine if your blog is a success or not.

The first tip, the primary content of your website or Blog must be supported by Google Adsense; if not you don’t create Adsense account because it is very important.

The second tip, don’t create Google Adsense account if your blog or website have little content. Update your website or blog to have at least 10 contents, if more is better.

The third tip, you must change ownership of your domain name by your name because frequently asked questions by Google Adsense when creating Google Adsense account is: “whether is your submitted website is your website? Or similar question” If you buy the domain through your hosting owner and you have access to configure your domain you can change the domain owner by yourself but if you do not have enough knowledge about this, please ask your friend or your hosting administrator.

The fourth tip, add “Meta author” on your blog. This is usually very rarely used the most frequently used is Meta keywords and Meta description.

With the above tips, possible your application request will be accepted by Google. If rejected you can apply again after some time.

You probably already know at least a little something about making money by selling products on the world’s largest marketplace – ebay. But did you know that you can make money without stocking, selling or shipping any merchandise at all.

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN2NF2jQjvYThP8-t90yqMG2esYZoBw9fpTAtfz1MpM7IE0X-trzVEBGWemYWFLSBLN-_KArT9y7IHwoqnZ_1LQXkWBrVycpU9nVJXgk2Fo-N0PmAIoTBO2whFM12E7ZFrZCXOBehR3feh/s320/make-money-on-ebay.png

You can become an ebay affiliate and make money just by sending others to theirwebsite. Go to ebay.com and find the affiliate link at the bottom of the front page.Click the linkand join the affiliate program.

The referral program is managed by Commission Junction and pays you a referral fee of $25 – $35 for everyone who makes a purchase within 30 days of clicking your link! One good way to maximize your ebay referral income is to add ebay links and banners to your blog or website.

Let your niche audience know how that they can find the items they’re looking for on ebay and ask them to use your links. You can use ebay’s flexible linking tool to send your customers directly to the page on ebay’s site where they’ll be
sure to find the item that they’re shopping for. That’s a win-win situation. Your customer will save time and effort in searching for the item and you’ll earn a nice commission at the same time.

How to Make Money Online Interviewing Experts

Posted by Muslim

Want an idea for making lots of money for less than an hour of work…if you could honestly call it “work”? How about making money talking about topics that you’re already passionate about? How about also getting paid for having conversations with people that you hold in high esteem?
In just a minute I’ll give you an easy formula for making money by interviewing experts in your niche.
Before I do I need to tell you about an awesome product that you need to make this idea work very effortlessly.

Visit Audio Acrobat to set up an account so that you’ll be able to record your interviews and make them available to your paying customers. After you get that set up here’s what you’ll need to do next.
  1. Depending upon the size of your niche, identify 10-20 people who you consider experts.

  2. Visit the online forums where people in your niche come to get help or offer advice. Take notice of the types of questions that are asked repetitively, the things that people struggle to accomplish or the goals that they set.

  3. Based on your findings write down a few questions that you’d like to ask each expert.

  4. Contact the experts to arrange an interview. Give him/her a list of the questions that you’d like to ask. Let them know the reason why you want to do the interview, i.e., for a membership site, for a new product, etc.

  5. Call the expert at the appointed time and record the interview.

  6. Do some basic editing on the interview to give it professional sounding quality.

  7. Set up the sales process then let your niche audience know that the interview is available for purchase.

I don’t mean to over simplify the process but it truly is one of the easiest ways to make money online that I personally know. Regardless of your niche there are always experts in every field that you can interview and enthusiasts who are willing to pay you money for access to those interviews.

After you go through the steps that I’ve listed above just rinse and repeat with each of the remaining experts on your list. Within a few weeks you should have at least 10 interviews completed. This is enough original material to add to a membership site and start receiving recurring income for the next couple of months. Continue doing the same and add more interviews as you go along.
Your income will continue to grow while you do something very enjoyable.

How to Make Money Blogging

In this page I want to share some information for beginners on how to make money blogging. For a very quick and broad visual intro – check out this Make Money Blogging MindMap which visualizes just SOME of the ways bloggers make money blogging.

First – let me start by sharing my own top Money Making Methods (updated regularly) but below that point you to some great resources and teaching on how to increase your income from blogging.

How I Make Money BloggingWhat follows is a quick summary of my main income streams from blogging. Before you read it though – keep in mind that every blog is unique in how it can make money. Some of the following income streams will work on some blogs a lot better than others – the key is to experiment with as many as possible and see what works best for you.

The following income streams (from a number of blogs) have helped me to earn a six figure income each year for the last 5 years from blogging. I’ve ranked them from highest to lowest.

I hope you find it useful to see the mix and variety of ways that I earn a living from blogging.

1. AdSense

AdsenseDespite not using it here at ProBlogger any more (here’s why)
I continue to use AdSense with amazing effect on my other blogs. I have them all set to show image and text based ads and find that 250×300 pixel ads work best (usually with a blended design). I don’t have much luck with their ‘referrals’ program but their normal ads work a treat and continue to be the biggest earner for me.

2. Affiliate Programs

miscellaneous affiliate programsI run a variety of affiliate programs on my blogs – most of which bring in smaller amounts of money that don’t really justify a category of their own (but which certainly add up).

These include recommending quality products like these here on ProBlogger: Thesis WordPress theme, Yaro’s Blog Mastermind Coaching Program and How to Launch the F*** out of your E-Book (and others) as well as some great products on my photography blog including 123 of Digital Imaging, David DuChemin’s amazing Photography E-Books and Mitchell Kanashkevich’s great ebooks.

The great thing about many of these programs is that they are of such high quality that they sell themselves and I am being emailed from readers who sign up to them thanking me for the recommendation!

3. E-Book Sales

make-money-blogging-ebooks.jpgLast time I did a wrap up of how I make money blogging this category did not exist for me – I didn’t really have any of my own products to sell at all. However in the last year or so I’ve released 3 E-books – 31 Days to Build a Better Blog, The Essential Guide to Portrait Photography and Photo Nuts and Bolts: Know Your Camera and Take Better Photos. While these products all only sell for under $20 they certainly add up and some months this has been my biggest category of income. The reason they were only ranking at #3 in the last month was that I didn’t do a product launch (I wrote about one launch which brought in $72,000 in a week here). This is an income stream I see growing as I add more E-books to my range (expect 3 in the coming few months).

4. Continuity Programs

make-money-blogging-continuity.jpgThis is another newer category for me but one that continues to grow.

A continuity program is a site where you earn a recurring income from people who subscribe to a service you offer.

For me this includes two sites – ProBlogger.com and Third Tribe Marketing. Both programs are membership sites and generate monthly income from the thousands of members that they have as a part of them.

5. Private Ad Sales/Sponsorships

private-ad-salesPrivate ad sales directly to advertisers have fallen for me in the last year (they previously ranked #3 on this list). This is partly due to a change in my own focus but also partly due to the economy as it is. I should note that this area does vary a little from month to month depending upon the campaigns we’re asked to run – we’ve had a couple of months where it actually ranked #2 in the last year.

This includes ad sales of the 125 x 125 ads here at ProBlogger as well as a campaign or two at Digital Photography School.

6. Chitika

ChitikaChitka continues to be a great performer for me on my blogs. They traditionally have worked best on product related blogs although their Premium ad units now convert well on a larger range of blogs.

While I’ve focused a little less on Chitika in the last 6 months (mainly as I’ve released my own products and moved a little away from advertising) they do continue to perform well where I use them and over the time I’ve been using Chitika they’ve now earned me over a quarter of a million dollars – as a result I can’t recommend them enough!

7. Amazon Associates

Amazon’s affiliate program has been one of my big movers in the last 12 months.
used to make a few odd dollars from it – however in recent times it has become a significant earner for me (in fact it’s now earned me over $100,000 since I started using it). Christmas time (and the lead up to it) is a particularly good time for Amazon – last December it would have ranked #2 on this list.

8. ProBlogger Job Boards

make-money-blogging-job-board The job boards here at ProBlogger continue to grow each month in the number of advertisements that are being bought. This enabled me to invest most of the money that they’d earned a while back into getting a new back end for the boards and to redesign them. These job boards now bring in over $1000 a month in revenue which is pretty nice considering that they are so low maintenance to run. They also offer a service to readers and add value to the overall blog.

The only problem that I face with the job boards is that there are so many bloggers looking for work that the demand for jobs far exceeds the supply. On the good side of things is that advertisers are reporting getting amazing quality of applications.

9. Speaking Fees

I get asked to do a lot of speaking and increasingly they are paid opportunities. I’m not able to do as many as I would like (mainly because I live in Australia and most of what I’m asked to do is overseas and I only travel 2-3 times a year) – however in April I did a couple of events and the income was enough to include in this list.

Other Income

In addition to all of the above there are many smaller incomes. Many of these are from smaller advertising programs that I test but none are big enough to really rate a mention here.

You Can Make Money Online Doing Anything You Want

Posted by Muslim

I often get people asking me the following question: “What is the best way to make money online?”  They wonder if they should focus on blogging, affiliate marketing, search engine optimization, web design, selling ebooks, or what.

My short answer to that question is: there is no “best” way. All business models can work if you work hard, smartly, and persistently.

The proof to this is the fact that you have millionaires on virtually any segment and business model around.
You have millionaire bloggers, affiliate marketers, web designers, ebook sellers, SEOs and so on.

What is more interesting ?? there are people out there making a ton of money even with trivial services like directory submissions. Anyone can make directory submissions, yet I know people who make six figures annually by offering directory submission services.

Now don’t get the wrong idea. I am not saying that making money online on any segment is easy. It is hard. But it is pretty much equally hard, regardless of the business model or segment you choose.

The takeaway message from this post, therefore, is the following:
Don't stress trying to choose the “best” way to make money online. And more importantly, don’t let that choice paralyze you.
There is no “best” way or business model. Just choose something that you like to do, something that you are passionate about, and work damn hard at it. Work hard until you are among the best doing that. Once you reach that point, the money will come naturally.

You probably have already seen dozens, if not hundreds of “make money online” blogs and websites out there, right? Their popularity is no secret: people see bloggers earning big time in this niche (or at least claiming to), and they decide to jump in to see if they can get a piece of the pie. Unfortunately most people who follow that route will fail in the long run.

A couple of weeks ago I came across a post from Yaro, titled How To Make Money Teaching People How To Make Money, that explained how this pattern unfolds.
Here is a quote from it:
Some people consider making money by teaching how to make money essentially a scam. I mean if you know a system of how to make money, why not just use that system rather than sell it? That smells fishy right? Umm, no, I find that logic quite silly. Why not make money using your system AND teaching it.

So, why can a small minority of people earn big in the Internet marketing industry and the majority fail miserably? Is the make money online niche only full of scammers or those who just got lucky?

As someone who has been making money in this niche for years – and I’ve certainly climbed the ladder over time – I’m in a pretty good position to explain the subtle elements that people new to Internet marketing won’t see.
The interesting thing about Yaro’s post is that he is not only explaining why people fail to make money on the “make money online” niche, but he also lays down some points and tips that you can use to succeed. Worth a read.

Multiple Adsense Accounts

Posted by Muslim

http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/j392/wpronline/marketing/google-adsense.jpg
If you need a separate account for your business, Google have this to say (from the same link, above):
In this case, you may submit a new application. Please make sure that the account type (individual or business) and payee name are different from your original application, and ensure that you can accept payments to that payee.
For each company with an account, you need to make the payee the name of the company and create bank accounts for that company (which you will be doing anyway).

I've had some success with Adsense. OK, it took me years to build my Adsense revenue to that point, but when that point came it made sense to incorporate a company to handle the income that my sites generate. Of  course, after setting the company up I needed to create an Adsense account in the company's name. Hence the question.

The company is doing really well.

But get this. After I set the company up and created the Adsense account for it, I started transferring my most lucrative sites to the company account first. I've currently got 3 high earners there. I've just received an email from Google inviting me to particpate in a 4 week programme for "high potential accounts"! I suspect that the programme won't teach me anything I don't already know (such modesty!), but there's always a chance.

This just demonstrates that Google do keep a watchful eye on performance. Scary huh?

On the subject of multiple Adsense accounts, you might find this informative post on Pro Blogger illuminating. The Pro Blogger reader whose experience is described moved their high performing and low performing sites into different Adsense accounts. The revenue on the high performing account went up whilst that on the low performing one went down. This ties in with the smart pricing affects whole accounts not sites theory. I don't know how good the testing was, but that post is certainly food for thought.

My experience with using multiple Adsense accounts differs from that of the Pro Blogger reader in one important respect. The revenue from both accounts has gone up!

After a year or so, I'll create an ultra Adsense account and move the highest performing sites owned by my company to the new account - see how smart pricing affects that!

How to Earn Money as a Writer

Posted by Muslim on Thursday, September 1, 2011

Do you want to earn money as a writer? If you love writing, then I’m sure the answer is ‘yes!’ Because if we can earn a crust whilst doing what we love – that’s pretty optimal. Agreed?

But how to do it?

If you’re a novelist, a poet, or a story writer – you may have to  wait for the big break-through. But if you’re ‘faction’ writer – I  mean, if you write non-fiction – you have a lot more options.

Freelancing

There are many different kinds of freelancing jobs. You can write for magazines or other print media, for business, or for the Internet.

Blogging also teaches you how to write well for magazines. Because the optimal structure of blog posts, as well as the crafting of headlines, is similar to what you need to do in order to write well for magazines.

Writing and selling eBooks

Traditional print media are heading for a collapse. This is a great opportunity for web-savvy writers! A good way to create an online income is to write and self-publish books and reports. Or to create products, such as podcasts, videos, webinars, or courses. Those kinds of products may seem a far cry from an eBook, but in reality they are based upon written material. The content is just presented in a different medium.

The new wave of ‘pay for content’

There is a lot of discussion in the Blogosphere about how bloggers could offer premium content for modest subscriptions.

In view of this, it’s a great time to build an attractive blog with a strong readership in order to make the most of this new direction when it gains traction.

Freelancing opportunities

Here at WTD, we’re keen to see you succeed. I’m mindful of the fact that many of us need to find a way to make our passion for writing pay the bills. That’s why I’ve jumped at a new opportunity that could benefit all of you. I’ve joined a network that collects and publishes freelance opportunities for writers.

For now, I’ve placed a widget with the job board in the sidebar. But I could also display a larger amount of jobs on a separate page. Leo Babauta and I would earn a small amount from the job provider when a WTD reader gets a job (but not enough to buy a pony …) More importantly – this may turn out to be a good source of potential jobs for you, our readers. Please tell us in the comments what you think of the Write to Done Job Board. Should we have a page of freelance jobs for writers on this blog?

How to Start Earning From Your Blog

Posted by Muslim

Sure, you want your blog to attract a huge audience and earn bazillions while you sleep. Lots of people are blogging their hearts out trying to achieve this dream.

But while you’re waiting to hit it big, you don’t have to starve. There’s another way to earn from blogging. It doesn’t have the same strike-it-rich potential, but it’ll pay your bills right now.

You can use your blogging skills and blog for pay, for publications and corporations.

No, not for $5 a post. Ignore those ads.

There are blogging gigs out there that pay a very good hourly wage. Taking freelance paid-blogging jobs can let you earn while still leaving time to work on your own site. As a bonus, you get more practice writing blogs, which may improve your own blog’s chances of success.

Here’s how to find good-paying blogging clients and get them to hire you:

1. Make your blog posts awesome and engaging.
Even if there are only a few posts on there, make them great — concise and focused on your niche. Think of your blog as a rolling audition for paying gigs. In my experience, paying blog clients want to see three things: that you know how to get comments, stick to a niche topic, and use common blogging platforms such as WordPress and Blogger.

2. Select your targets.
Consider where you might likely blog for pay, based on your own interests and work experience. For instance, I was once a legal secretary, so I’ve done some paid blogs for lawyers. Develop a list of publications, companies, or Web portals that might hire you and pay well. Don’t ignore trade publications, as they are often good payers. Once you’ve got some possible prospects, take a look at their websites to see if they lack a blog, or perhaps have a blog that’s short on visitors and infrequently updated.

3. Research your targets.
Next, do some sleuthing to discover who might pay well. In general, I find more sophisticated topics and target audiences command better pay and have less writer competition. So blogging about parenting or your dog will not pay well, but writing about acupuncture or business finance likely will. Next, find out if the publication is growing or the company is well-funded. Writers’ groups on LinkedIn are a great place to ask around about a prospective employer. In general, bigger companies will offer better pay.

4. Promote your blog posts in social media.
Start spreading your content around. Connect with popular users of social media in the niche where you want to blog for pay.

5. Target prospects with your posts.
When you have a post that makes a good audition piece, send it to your prospects (or top social-media influencers) with a note: “I thought you’d enjoy this post.” You can use Twitter, LinkedIn, or just plain email — whatever you think that prospect would respond to best. Even better: Write a post for your blog specifically tailored to appeal to your prospects, then send it to them.

6. Leave comments on key blogs.
Another way to connect with well-paying blogs is to leave articulate comments on that blog. Become a regular participant and link to your own blog posts. You may get read, discovered and offered a paying gig.

7. Call on prospects and ask for the job.
If the steps above haven’t gotten you asked to blog for pay, it’s time to get proactive. You might call editors and marketing managers on the phone and ask if they need a blogger, send postcards, or perhaps use InMail on LinkedIn (that last boasts an impressive 30% response rate). Experiment and see what works for you. In your pitch, be sure to mention specifics you observed about their Web site, and offer suggestions for how you could improve it with well-written, regular blog posts.

8. Gain visibility.
Once you land a paid blogging gig, be sure to get your byline as a live link to your blog, so prospects can easily find you. As your paid blog gets rolling, begin the above steps over again. Make the paid blog great and immediately begin promoting it to better-paying prospects in that niche. Always be aware of how much traffic your paid-blog sites receive, and look to move up to busier — and better-paying — sites.

9. Your paying blog finds you clients.
Once you are blogging on a popular site, you often will be approached by other companies in that niche with job offers. At this point, paid blogging markets itself, and you have your pick of additional gigs. I’ve found that one of my paid blogs brings a steady stream of paid-blogging offers. As a bonus, readers of your paid blog may click your byline link and discover your blog as well, giving you possible new readers.

10. Keep raising your rates.
As you move up, your rates should increase. Gradually drop lower-paying blog clients in favor of better-paying ones. Think in terms of how long it takes you to create a post, and aim for a rate of $50-$100 an hour. Don’t forget to charge by the hour if the client also wants you to do social-media promotion of your posts, or needs advice on blog-marketing strategy. I’ve seen rates as high as $300 a blog post, and $100 a post is fairly common. Don’t settle for peanuts — keep looking until you find clients who understand how a powerful blog will help build their business.

  1. You aren’t asking money, but making money
It’s the basic. Remember that making is not same with asking. When you asking it, you just have to raise the hand, turn it upside, and say “Please give some coins, Sir”.

You must have or do something, and make it useful for another. Take a look for popular sites, like Google, Facebook, Twitter and many else. All of them is the rich people. Why? Because people need them. They have something that can make people happy. For example Google. I love Google. They have great search engine that can help to find anything information.

Ugly websites can make more money

Posted by Muslim

Often when people are developing websites, they want the best design and layout and it is a natural impulse to develop the nicest looking website possible. Interestingly though, the prettiest websites do not always make the most money.

Pretty websites

Visually appealing websites are often the goal of website developers. Well designed websites help add a professional air and credibility to a website. This helps especially when you are trying to sell a product or sell a service.

Visually well designed websites can also create a path for the eye of the visitor to the desired action or outcome. Encouraging them to take the action you want is usually accomplished through a combination of layout, color and text. A/B testing or eye tracking studies can help optimize such designs.

Ugly websites

A number of times when developing websites I have run across situations where a website makes money and when I further optimize or style the website, I end up making a lot less money. I have read about this and talked to other developers about the same phenomenon.

In my experience, this happens with the pay per click (ppc) revenue model rather than other revenue models and it seems this matches other peoples experiences.

It is possible that ugly websites seem unfinished and communicate to the visitor consciously or subconsciously that these websites are not the final destination. This in turn probably encourages them to click on ppc links to seek a better alternative result.

Leave an ugly website alone

Others have reported leaving websites alone, often for several years and discovering that they make good money despite outdated or unfinished design. Attempts to renovate these sites seems to reduce revenue and they just seem to do better when left alone.

If you are going to change the design or layout of a website that is already making money, then testing the new design before fully implementing it is very important.

Testing new website design and layout through A/B testing

But how do you go about testing such design changes? The best way is through A/B testing. A/B testing is often ignored by website developers and thought of as a rich man’s toy. Nothing could be further from the truth and I will discuss how you can use A/B testing in a later post.

What to do with an ugly website?

Ugly websites can be left alone to continue to make money. Security updates to software should be done of course. Alternatively if you have to change the design or layout, you should also think about changing the revenue model away from ppc or have a mixed revenue model.
